Leek were reduced to 10 men after just 15 minutes when youngster Sam Brereton picked up a hamstring injury, before Cannock found the net 6 minutes later to get the visitors off the mark.
Leek worked hard for the remainder for the half to keep the score at 0-1 at the half way point, missing 2 good opportunities to take the lead.
It was the visitors who struck again 5 minutes into the 2nd period extending their lead to 0-2.
The moorlanders were handed the 3 short corner of the game 12 minutes after the break and it was Wez Weston that to a shot from the top of the D which bobbled it's way past the Cannock keeper, 1-2.
With the desire to get back in to the game Leek threw all but the kitchen sink at a reluctant Cannock who managed to pass the ball around the the Leek keeper for a deflection just off the goal line, 1-3.
Leeks desire to leave it all out on the pitch paid dividends 15 minutes from time when Wez Weston wondered through the Cannock midfield to hit a diving reverse stick shout to the left of the Cannock keeper, 2-3.
Cannock added their fourth and final goal eight minutes from time to see Leek end the first day of the season in 7th place.
